The keffiyeh/scarf trend

I really don't understand why people rock the keffiyeh scarf. Do people even know what it means?! Since when did Yasser Arafat become a style icon? Riddle me that, Urban Outfitters (that's right, I'm pointing fingers).
Is it because people want to look more political and hip? Cuz they don't. They look moronic in almost 90 degree weather with a scarf around their necks. I guess it goes well with their ratty t-shirt, neon sunglasses, and cut-off nut-hugging jeans (blistering heat will not stop them from displaying that moose knuckle)

Personally, if I had to choose, I'd wear the handkerchief style on my neck. I like looking like a wayward dog that goes against the grain and rejects his collar. This keffiyeh trend is almost as bad as Che Guevara shirts being sold at Wal-Mart.Oh yes, believe me, I saw one. How long until we see the keffigyeh at a K-mart next to Route 66 jeans? Place your bets people!
YES! This is RACHEL RAY. This Dunkin' Donuts ad had to be pulled because it was offensive. If I had bought one of these scarves, I would have incinerated it because Rachel Ray wore it. Oh yeah, and because it's offensive and jihad isn't "cool".
