After spending a couple of months apartment searching, I finally found the perfect bachelorette pad. A spacious studio in Downtown Portland for only $665 a month. It's a bargain.
The walls are off white, the huge kitchen has a new stove, a refrigerator, AND there's an adorable looking sink in the bathroom that was just installed. The knobs on the door look like they are made of crystal and they are so cute. It's all adorably vintage. Stefanie said it was "prime real estate" and a "cute city girl apartment." Someone even called it a "Sex and the City apartment". It's that amazing.
Here's my problem:
In August of 2007, a man lured some young girl into porn by giving her meth and other drugs. Eventually, he ended up killing her in his apartment and TRIED to kill himself before police came. It all occurred in my building. It happened in room 207....I'm in room 206.
When I found out I wanted to VOMIT. I literally got so sick to my stomach. I found out only because I was searching for my new address and stumbled upon the article written by the local news. The guy who runs the place didn't even KNOW it had happened. In fact, when I informed him of what I found he said, "that's my office..." EW.
So now I'm in a pickle. I have a huge phobia of all things death/spirits/ghosts/killing. It scares the shit out of me. That place has bad vibes and memories. I was so upset because I thought I had found THE place. I don't even think I could be there alone, let alone close my eyes to sleep.
Would you stay after finding out these horrible details?

Oh Maribel! That really sucks! But you shouldn't worried your not a meth addict well I hope not and your not easily persuaded by stupid men. Things happen and its life. And with the spirits and all if you have an optimistic out look for you new beginning in you new place, all will be fine. Its how you carry it out, si lo haces con miedo, you will have negativity, but if you look at the positives and realize that shit happens and you wont put yourself out there like that girl did, entonces todo va estar bien. And yes I would still live there, ya I might watch my back a little more, but its downtown Portland, when is there not creeps out there? Just have a positive outlook todo va estar bien, well at least I hope!
I'm not afraid of being lured into porn or meth. It's the actual fact that someone was brutally murdered and terrorized in the studio next to mine. Someone DIED. That's what I have a problem with. I get so creeped out by funeral homes and cemeteries. For real. It's a problem/phobia. But the apartment is so amazing. :(
Not to freak out out or anything, but people have died pretty much everywhere. There were native people who inhabited Oregon before we came here... You shouldn't be afraid. It didn't actually happen in that particular room, so that is a plus.
If you get the place, focus on making it nice and cheery. If you are worried about spirits and stuff do something proactive. You could always light some candles at church if you are religious or make a donation to a womens' shelter in that girl's name. You can bring positive energy to a place that needs it. That's a great opportunity! Good luck!
If there is a possibility of ending up on the Discovery Channel's The Haunting...I say its a no go. But that's just me.
That kind of stuff freaks the hell out of me too. The fact that someone was killed is bad, death is bad but a murder... that spirit is bound to be floating around still. Here's my advice: burn some candles, splash some holy water (if possible get a small child to do this, I'm not sure why, but its better), burn some sage. Then do whatever you can to make it uninviting to creepy spirits. I agree about making it feel cheery. After all, its not often you get the chance to have the perfect city girl apartment. But the second your tv starts turning on and off on its own and your furniture rearranges itself, hightail it out of there. If the aforementioned measures haven't worked there's no need to push it.
i agree with Unicorn...there is a huge chance you may end up in the show "a haunting". a regular death ok...but a torture...hmmm im getting chills just thinking about it! maybe just get a priest bless your new possible crib..?
I would go for it! and if you really believe in hauntings and spirits.. there are ways of warding them off.
how long is the lease? if the place ends up creeping you out too much you can always move.
You can do this! It won't be easy, but you are more than capable. Also, I know Stefanie...she'll help you out so much! She told me about the kitchen, morning breakfasts with coffee and orange juice with waffles! Maybe one day I'll be able to visit you in your new place.
Marbies just do it. It happened next door, not IN your apartment. A ghost isn't going to decide to haunt the apartment next door for no reason. You'll be fun. SUCK IT UP (kidding). Love, Robyn
