MixGreat [Monday-ish]

Song That Speaks To My Soul
The Blow-"True Affection"

True Affection - The Blow

Keeping it Northwest. This song is super beautiful. I saw The Blow live in '06, opener for Jenny Lewis. The music is fun and super carefree, good for just relaxing.

2. The Throwback
Bon Jovi-"Always"

ALWAYS - Jon Bon Jovi

This was my first favorite song ever. I remember playing this song over and over again. I bought this tape and literally broke it. Also, the video had Keri Russell pre-felicity. This was the evolution of her post-disney career.

3. The Guilty Pleasure
Chris Brown-"Take You Down"

Take You Down - Chris Brown

I can't believe I haven't put this song up before. This song is my jam! Yes it's pretty disgusto, but just go with it.

HELP! I NEED SOME ADVICE!

Since I give you amazing reading material, I think it's time you all give back. I need advice. Badly.

After spending a couple of months apartment searching, I finally found the perfect bachelorette pad. A spacious studio in Downtown Portland for only $665 a month. It's a bargain.

The walls are off white, the huge kitchen has a new stove, a refrigerator, AND there's an adorable looking sink in the bathroom that was just installed. The knobs on the door look like they are made of crystal and they are so cute. It's all adorably vintage. Stefanie said it was "prime real estate" and a "cute city girl apartment." Someone even called it a "Sex and the City apartment". It's that amazing.

Here's my problem:

In August of 2007, a man lured some young girl into porn by giving her meth and other drugs. Eventually, he ended up killing her in his apartment and TRIED to kill himself before police came. It all occurred in my building. It happened in room 207....I'm in room 206.

When I found out I wanted to VOMIT. I literally got so sick to my stomach. I found out only because I was searching for my new address and stumbled upon the article written by the local news. The guy who runs the place didn't even KNOW it had happened. In fact, when I informed him of what I found he said, "that's my office..." EW.

So now I'm in a pickle. I have a huge phobia of all things death/spirits/ghosts/killing. It scares the shit out of me. That place has bad vibes and memories. I was so upset because I thought I had found THE place. I don't even think I could be there alone, let alone close my eyes to sleep.

Would you stay after finding out these horrible details?

Mix-Great Monday: Marble$ Edition!

I'm keepin this post Mari-Belectronic for this one (you love my puns)! If this mix doesn't make you want to do the robot or any other spastic movement, check your pulse.

1. Song that speaks to my soul:

Popper (Shinichi Osawa Distortion Disco edit) - Christopher & Raphael Just

The first time I heard this, it spoke to my soul and made it feel better. I was in a horrible mood that day. The sound of cowbells makes anyone's heart soar. This jam is super long and is kind of repetitive so I won't take it personal if you stop it. I always skip before songs are over because I get a little antsy myself.

2. THE THROWBACK:

Around the world - Daft Punk
You can't hate on Daft Punk. You can try, but you'll fail miserably. I heard this song for the first time at an 8th grade dance--around the year 2000 (Conan O'Brien, say what?). Thirteen year old Maribel was never the same again. The Backstreet Boys just didn't cut it for me.

3. The GUILTY PLEASURE:

Act a Fool (Ravestradamus) - Flosstradamus
Before you judge me, let me explain this one. This song is a mash-up of Lil-Jon's 'Act a Fool' and Kraftwerk. The two most RANDOM songs put together to make something so decadent. I have informally dubbed this song as: "sounds-like-a-mash-up-of-a-high-school-dance". It's pure genius. When I first heard it, I felt like my ears were violated because it was so ridiculous.
That Kraftwerk song was the hotness at my high school. People went NUTS! Hands in the air and erry-thang!

I had the opportunity to watch Flosstradamus DJ at an event over a year ago and it was amazing. When I heard this song come on, I downed my vanilla vodka so fast and began dancing in a sea of sweaty white hipsters. I didn't care how wrong it may have looked. I had a mission to fulfill.

Birthday WishList.

Seeing as my birthday is in one week, I've decided to create a list of suggested presents wish-list just for kicks ;) Plus, I haven't been to keen on the idea of turning 23 and this will make me feel better. It beats actual retail therapy since I'm not spending any real dough!

This vintage hat with netting would be nice..

The three finger ring in leopard Swarovski crystals would be nice...

This hoodie is currently $95. I'm waiting for it to go on sale...

And this endangered polar bear cub would be a great conversation starter.

Kanye West Makes The Mullet Work. .

Kanye West's mullet made it's debut and celebrated Obama's win at the 'Neighborhood ball'. I'm fascinated by his entire look. Driving gloves+Dorky Tuxedo= hipster. But it also = awesome because he makes it WORK. Is it wrong that I find his hipster ways endearing? I feel so bad, but it feels so right...

Catch his performance here:

Hating on Real World: Brooklyn's JD

I know Stefanie already did a Real World post but...

During my stay in Hood River, in between Vicodin-induced power naps, I watched the first two episodes of Real World:Brooklyn over and over again. I was too lazy to change the channel!

Anyway, in the beginning I was in love with JD--the half Puerto Rican/Cuban guapo who was super nice to Katelynn (the transgendered woman keeping her status secret). Of course, being that he seemed so perfect, he inevitably confesses that he is gay. Rats.

After thinking JD was super perfect, it turns out he's super lame. He gets drunk because he has issues with his father and comes home and says something a long the lines of, "I'm sick of all these immigrants who can't speak English..." Then Chet, the albino "not-gay-just-metro-sexual" mormon gets all offended. When Chet-head has to tell YOU that you're being offensive, then you've crossed the line.

Then JD says something like, "No it's cool, my parents were on the banana boat." Oh JD. POR QUE?!?!?!? You were my fave!!

HATER THURSDAY: Morning Radio Shows

The other day I had to wake up early and drive to my sister's place. I haven't been in a moving vehicle during regular morning hours in a very long time. (*Note I only have the radio in my car) Well as I was driving down the freeway, I was going from station to station trying to find music. Nope! Rather it was annoying person after person talking about the dumbest stuff that only 1% of the listening population would find interesting, and then they'd follow with a quick traffic report. There is nothing entertaining about these people or their bits or the info they want to share. Can't I just listen to some music on my old school radio!?! I don't think that is too much to ask for. Pfff, I need at least a tape deck...

HATER THURSDAY: Chet from the Real World Brooklyn

Even though I don't have cable I keep up with the good cable programs via the world wide web. The Real World is a classic and I've watched this show since Season 1!

Word up Norm! Word up Julie! Word up Heather!

Well this new season has 8 housemates! 8 strangers picked to live in a house...

This new season, in Brooklyn, has a few regularly annoying people but CHET takes the cake. He is weirdly arrogant and oblivious to so many things. He's so ridiculous to watch. Also, he already has a pretty bromantic relationship with another "bro" in the house: Ryan. I believe these 2 will make-out by the end of the season. Chet can be described as:
"the 'metrosexual' who wears guyliner and is super Mormon and has white hair and eyebrows."
Basically that is a crazy scary mix.

Plus his name is close to the world shit. Sucks for him...

The Soup had a great little bit of Chet and his bromance:

MIX-GREAT! $cruz is hurrrr!!!

It's been toooo long! I'm back and I have some fabulous songs to share...

1. Song That Speaks To My Soul
"Coal to Diamonds"-The Gossip

This song is so beautiful. There is something so vulnerable in Beth Ditto's voice. I'm not going to lie, I sing this song at the top of my lungs. I usually imagine myself in a spotlight wearing a lounge inspired sparkley gown covered in diamonds. Is that wrong? Anyway, I love this song.

2. The Throwback
"He's mine" MoKenStef

I was reminded of this song yesterday while listening to the Slow Jams on Z100. I totally forgot about this song! I remember I stole this tape from my sister and played it on heavy rotation on my boom box. Thanks hermana. Also, the name of the group came from mixing all three of their names together to form one name...the last part is Stef...therefore I was meant to love this song. I'm so indie that I couldn't find the original on imeem, hence the youtube to the rescue. So really, it's a treat because you get the music AND video.

3. Guilty Pleasure

"Don't Stop"-Baby Bash ft. Keith Sweat

Yes, it's another Baby Bash 'jam' and yes, your eyes/ears are not playing tricks on you...it's Keith Sweat. The crooner behind "Twisted" is still relevant and makes it work with Señor Bash (I say this because he's half Mexican). This song is so wrong but I love it, therefore the perfect criteria for a MG-GP (Mix-Great Guilty Pleasure). Enjoy this shizzz, and if you put it on repeat I won't judge you, I'll love you.

Mix-Great Monday: Marble$ edition

I know we've missed two Mix-Great Mondays. Forgive us. We've been busy with school, work, wisdom teeth extraction, and a bad case of Senioritis.

1. Song That Speaks To My Soul: Hot Chip- Look After Me
I was feeling pretty blue one day while I was getting ready for school and this song just randomly played on my ipod. I forgot I even had it. It articulated everything I was feeling at the moment.

Look After Me - Hot Chip

2. The Throwback: Sir-Mix-A-Lot- Posse on Broadway
Keepin' it Northwest with this joint! So many Seattle/NW references in it. Early 90's rap makes me happy. I think I was born 10 years too late sometimes.

Posse on Broadway - Sir Mix-A-Lot

3. The Guilty Pleasure: Ashanti- The Way That I Love You

This song will be accompanied by the video because when I first saw it I fell in love with the entire package. I like the song AND Ashanti's look. The outfit she's got in the kitchen screams, "I'm-a-50's-house-wife-and-I'm-pissed-off." I know you don't like animal prints, Stefanie, but this one is good! At first, I didn't want to like Ashanti when she came out in 2001. I felt like the music industry wanted to replace Aaliyah too quickly. She grew on me eventually. This video even makes me forgive the sideburns she rocked in the Foolish video (Check it here if you don't believe me. RIP Murda INC)
