Possible Graduation Gift???

I sent an e-mail to my mother with a link to this dress: In the body of the e-mail I wrote, "Should I wear this under my cap and gown during the graduation ceremony?" I'm hoping that my Mom will say yes and insist on buying it for me. The joy of having her first born/first college graduate in the family will overwhelm her and she will be compelled to purchase this. HEY! I deserve it!

I also hope she springs for these lovely Jackie O's. Keep it classy!

R.I.P.

Take a good look at these earrings. Fabulous, right? Well, I used to be the proud owner of these amazing door-knockers. I remember the day I got them on a warm summer day. I opened the box, removed the zebra print tissue paper and showed them Stefanie only to hear, "I just ordered the same pair." Well, we are no longer twins with our rope earrings. I lost one at an after-party at some random club in Eugene, OR. I know, Eugene is lame.

What a horrible way for my earring to die-- in the middle of a small town in Oregon.

Lady Gaga- LoveGame

I had the privilege of watching LoveGame at Stefanie's sister's house in HD (they also fed me while I was watching her big TV). I'm horribly jealous of Lady Gaga. Even though her face is kind of fug, she's got it going on. You can't say no to her. I tried for so long and I denied myself Lady Gaga for a good couple of months. Those get-up's are amazing and she is talented. The sad part is that she just turned 23. She is so lucky she doesn't have to decide on post-grad plans like yours truly.

Watch the video below! Click on the HQ option for your viewing pleasure! Lovegame reminds me of Bad by Michael Jackson--well if Bad was filmed at Boxxes with gay men and glitter.

Let's remember what she looked like before her makeover because I'm a hater. There. Now I feel better.

Style Icon: Debbie Jellinsky

I had the opportunity to not only sleep in, but to watch TV in my bed all day! (that's my spring break highlight by the way). During my TV binge, I watched Addams Family Values--one of my favorite movies ever. I never noticed how amazingly well put together Debbie was. Her outfits were bangin'! So 1950's!

Newest Edition!

You know it's a recession when Marble$ has to be frugal with her shoes. It's been so long since I've had the pleasure of opening a Nike box and inhaling the smell of shiny new kicks. I went shopping with la $cruz and she urged me to get these beautiful sneakers: I had to buy these shoes. It's like a Chanel suit + purse. You've got the the tweed from a classic Chanel suit and the quilted part reminds me of a Chanel quilted purse. This shoe is classy and elegant and that's why my purchase is validated. Thank you, Financial Aid. ;)

Bump It!

Bump it! No this has nothing to do with volleyball, rather your hair! For those that are volume challenged in terms of hair, you all have a new savior. BUMPIT, as described on their website is:

"Bumpits self gripping leave-in volumizing hair inserts give you instant volume and let you enjoy FEELING CONFIDENT and BEAUTIFUL, like you just stepped out of a professional salon!!"

Those out there on the prowl, looking for a gal with big teased hair with the help of nothing...don't be fooled. She might be using the assistance of a "bumpit."

I've seen the commercials/infomercials before, but I saw a revamped one today. One with new models showing off their great "hair bumps." This product is hilarious, but the advertisements in general are the real LOLs. They show all these different photo examples of how one can "bump" their own hair, they all looked like girls with too many gross highlights posing for their senior portraits.

Oh how much I inventions/infomercials.

Mix-Great, it's Spring Break!

1. Song That Speaks To My Soul
"Wet and Rusting"-Menomena

Menomena is not only a great band, but they are from Portland which gives them a few more points. Their album Friend & Foe is great from beginning to end. It's a very interesting mix that all just speaks to my soul. This song in particular is just very relaxing. My friend and I would always play this song while "cruzing" because it just fit the scenery so well. It belongs in the ending of films, it's a powerful number.

Wet And Rusting - Menomena

2. The Throwback
"I Want You Back"-Nsync

Have I put this song up yet? I don't even remember. But I don't care, all I know is that this song does not get old. It's so catchy and infectious, therefore it's amazing. This song keeps popping up in my mind and the ipods of those around me. So lets take a step back to the late 90s and do this...Also, who misses JT's top ramen bleached curls?

I Want You Back - NSync

3. Guilty Pleasure
"Rockin That Thang"-The-Dream

This song is such a guilty pleasure that I couldn't wait to add this to my Mix-Great Guilty Pleasure. This song is just so great, I love it. I don't care who knows, I'm going to turn it up and listen to it as soon as I publish this post...booya.

Felicity- Remember her?

I'm glad Stefanie brought up teen dramas with her Dawson's Creek post. The BEST drama on the WB during the late 90's was Felicity. This is one of the main reasons why I wanted to go to college when I was 12. I wanted to have cool friends, boys fight over me, and discover who I was in a big city. Felicity had it made at University of New York (which is not real, they totally sent my application back). I will forever hate her for picking Ben over Noel. Ben was such a jerk for hooking up with Julie (aka the Pink Power Ranger from the first season). Here is one of the coolest scenes ever with Noel and Felicity studying for finals. I like how they don't look like hot messes like me and Stefanie. Right now, I'm studying for finals and it's 7:00 a.m. I haven't slept in so long, my hair is messy, and I've got my glasses on. Damn you Felicity for leading me on. I love college...

Open Letter to Daddy Yankee

Dear, Señor Yankee,

Consider this letter to be a formal apology. I know that in the past I have given you a hard time over the attire you choose to wear and your political views, but lately both Stefanie and I agree that you have it going on. By 'it', we mean your douche-bag demeanor that gives you the confidence and swagger that draws us in. We eat it up as if it were cake, and sometimes we ask for seconds.

Here at IHST, we consider ourselves to be progressive Brown girls with strong opinions. We try to break gender expectations and roles, but your misogynistic lyrics have become our soundtrack to our weekends filled with dancing and debauchery. Your music has even invaded our iPods as we walk to class.

Somehow you have become my secret crush (again). I think it might be the tattoos on your forearm that you proudly display in the Pose video. They are fantastic to look at. You can move from being secret crush to secret boyfriend by abiding to these tips I have for you. Remember, they are only mere suggestions, I don't mean to offend:
  • Stop tilting your hat to extreme levels. We love douchey tilted hats, but not when it's practically falling off of your head. Move it slightly back to the center
  • The hair...it's got to go. You aren't Pacey Witter from Dawson's Creek and you are definitely no George Clooney circa his ER days. Move past 1998 and get a new haircut.
  • Please stop identifying as a Republican. It's not hot at all. I don't claim any political affiliation, but I don't see how a Puerto Rican can be a Republican. It'd be sexier if you were part of some sort of organization that focused on the liberation of Puerto Rico. We both know the country needs to stop being a "commonwealth." Do you want to borrow my copy of Harvest of Empire by Juan Gonzalez? I can make it happen, baby.
I hope you accept my apology and we can become better friends.

XOXO,

Maribel

Mix-Great Monday- hey hey

It's the Marb$ Mix
THE SONG THAT SPEAKS TO MY SOUL:

Dont Rush Me - Jean Grae
I ♥ Jean Grae. I love Lauryn Hill too, but Jean Grae gets me a little more. She's rough around the edges. This song currently explains the current state of my life.

THE THROWBACK:

Touch it - Monifa
I used to sing this at home when my parents were gone. I danced around in my limegreen room with the volume all the way up--to the edited version of course. The Wal-Mart in Hood River, Oregon didn't carry this CD, but the K-Mart in The Dalles, Oregon did. Of course, The Dalles is like the trashier sister of Hood River. She sneaks out of her bedroom window and rolls back in at 6 a.m. with hickeys. It makes perfect sense why they would carry this CD.

THE GUILTY PLEASURE:

Im in Miami Bitch! - LMFAO
No one likes to be called a bitch, but this song's infectious beat can't be denied. Yesterday we were supposed to be doing homework, but our friend Mayra had a Popeye's craving so we had to go satisfy it (and it was the perfect excuse to avoid homework). She put on her CD mix and I almost died when I heard this remixed with Pitbull. It was happiness for my ears.

MixGreat, is FunGate

Yup, it's passed 4am and it's finals week.  Lets do 'dis!!!

1. Song That Speaks To My Soul
"Born To Do"-Everybody Else

Yes, this song/band were discovered during my "I love Southern California pop/rock bands" era.  This band is made up of a few white hipster dudes, typical, but I really enjoyed their sound as well as their stage performance.  I saw them live a long while back, back when I was a young eager kid who would wait in line for shows.  This song is simple, dreamy, and just fun.  Sometimes you just need some fun to speak to your soul.
"The Boy is Mine"-Brandy & Monica

Do you remember this song?!?!  How could you forget?  This song was such a big deal when it came out.  Brandy and Monica came together and created ONE song together?  Even though they are stereotypical hater girls fighting over a guy, the song is still so amazing.  I suggested to Marbs that she and I should do this song for karaoke.  I am Monica she is Brandy.
I had to make it really nostalgic by showing the video.

the boy is mine ft. monica - brandy

3. The Guilty Pleasure
"Love, Sex, & Magic"-Ciara ft. Justin Timberlake

When I first even heard that Ciara and JT were collaborating I was like "uh oh."  Uh-oh because I knew that I was going to love it.  It's so great, they mesh well together.  It sounds a bit J-Lo-ish, back when she claimed the J-Lo title.  I miss her.  But anyway, this is a fun song to have on the radio while driving in my cool Ford Escort.
*I couldn't find the full song on imeem, therefore I youtubed it*

Don't Open Blank Envelopes!!

Today I randomly remembered a great fight scene between Dan and Melissa from MTV's The Real World: Miami.  Remember the one where Melissa opened up an envelope belonging to Dan, followed by Dan getting super pissed?  When he busts out "...you stupid bitch!"  Ah!  So effing hilarious.  This show does not have what it used to...oh well, I keep watching.

You ♥ Teen Dramas!

I don't care what your opinions are about teen dramas, you need to watch this scene. These shows are such guilty pleasures, always have been.  It's finals week and Marbs and I have decided to avoid our work by going to Denny's and never leaving...discussing everything under the sun. One topic being the epic-ness of this paticular scene in Dawson's Creek. I'm not much of a sappy/romantic person, but these types of scenes get me! I shared a previous epic scene, and now I need to release another one. Ah, if only this really happened at prom, damn!

How long is James Van Der Beek's head? It's crazy. Is his brother Rocky from Mask?

Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo

I love On Demand movies! I came home to watch this cinematic masterpiece. Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. You want a good laugh? I highly recommend it. These characters walked around in public with these outfits on. I love how they fight and breakout into dance randomly! Here are some of my favorite parts.

The Lakers broke Rudy Fernandez

The Blazers beat the Lakers (111-94 -March 9th game), pretty cool stuff for Portland.  But the not so cool part: Rudy Fernandez is broken.  I love the Blazers and Rudy Fernandez is super great.  Rudy Fernandez is super foreign and his accent is super foreign, therefore he is awesome.

Get well soon RF #5 (my favorite number, coincidence? No).

Watch the drama unfold here. How cool is Brandon Roy? He totally went into beat down mode, lovely loyalty.

And just because:
