Mix-Great, MEMORIAL DAY-ish Edition

I've missed doing these...
Imeem is not cool anymore, they only play 30 sec clips of basically everything, therefore I youtubed all the songs this time...

1. Song That Speaks To My Soul
"Paint's Peeling"-Rilo Kiley

I listened to this song tons, about 3 years ago. I volunteered in an office that let me play whatever music I wanted, I always forgot my CD's so I just listened to what was there. People would leave CDs and this particular Rilo Kiley CD was perfect, a great way to answer phones and drink coffee...I miss those days sometimes.

2. The Throwback
"Right Here"-SWV

SWV is perfect for a throwback. I heart this song. "Weak" gets all the play, but this one is just as fabulous. SWV pandora radio is one of my favs, too amazing.

3. The Guilty Pleasure
"Room Service"-Pitbull

Ya it's a Pitbull song, again. It's not our fault he cranks out guilty pleasure after guilty pleasure. This song has such an infectious beat. I love it so much. Also, pay close attention at the 3:31 mark. Yup he totally gives me a shout. You're welcome for this.

4. Song That Are Like Roses & Chocolate
"Boyfriend #2"-Pleasure P

This song has "song that are like roses and chocolate" written all over it. It's so ridiculous yet you're still intrigued...why is that? This song may include champagne.

I ♥ you Gael and Juan Gabriel

I need to share these videos with the blog. Gael Garcia Bernal is the one of my favs...he's amazing. Watch him get all sorts of ridiculous in this video. You love it right? It's all sorts of RIGHT.

Juan Gabriel is a hero to many, and his performance in this fire hazard of a room is inspiring to me. Take note:

Maribel and I determined that if there was a movie about Juan Gabriel's life, Gael should be the star. Lets make this happen...

Nails That Blind

For Mother's Day my sister, mom, and I went for some nail treatment. I decided to paint my nails the most annoying color of orange on the planet. The picture below does not even compare to the color in real life. By the time the young lady finished painting my nails she had crossed-eyes, yesssss. I swear they almost could glow in the dark. Annoying/tacky colors are what it's all about. Who likes colors found in nature?

Soon, I'm getting my nails done for graduation. I'm thinking yellow? Suggestions?

Domino's Knows...

Mmmmm
So wrong but it happened...

A long while back, Marb's and I were watching TV and something caught ALL of our senses: a new commercial for Domino's Pasta Bread Bowls. After the commercial was over we looked at each other with baba hanging from our mouths. They looked so delish yet so wrong, it was insane. So after a couple weeks we were in search of food...why not google maps from an Iphone the next Domino's in the area and try these beasts?

$cruz: Three Cheese Mac-n-Cheese

Marb$: Chicken Alfredo

These things are pretty hefty, we couldn't even finish them. But they are so flavorful it's disgusting and by disgusting I mean amazing.

Here is a photo about half way through our journey:

Health warning: eating too many of these will kill your insides...

We're Sorry

We're sorry for not updating the blog as frequently. La $cruz and I are focusing on various things and one of them is graduation! On June 13th, we are officially done with our undergrad shit. Praise Jeezus. June 13th marks not only our graduation, but IHST's first birthday! I can't believe it's been an entire year. Hopefully this summer, we can bring you more goodness into your life.

Also, we leave you with a new Pitbull song that we really enjoy. It's our guilty pleasure summer jam.

You Know You're A Single Girl When...

#1:

...you have to see your parents (or any important engagement you must attend) and realize you have a stamp from the club you went to the previous night. During your car ride to your destination, you rub immense amounts of spit on your wrist hoping to make it go away.

Become a Fan on Facebook!

We created a Fan page on Facebook! You should add it to show love and spread the word. We hope to one day make IHST our daily grind. Your mission is to save Marb$ and $cruz from grad school. Do it!

Now help us by becoming a fan!

What is a SWIRL??

This concept may be difficult to explain, but I'm going to try anyway. These ideas were brought up after we noticed a trend of White boys speaking like Andy Samburg in the Like A Boss video (CLICK HERE TO WATCH IT AND UNDERSTAND WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT)

A Swirl (like the one pictured above) is a White person that adopts Brown/Black/Ethnic stereotypical qualities. It can also work conversely--mostly seen with Brown/Black hipsters. An example of this phenomenon would be:

Justin Timberlake. I try to forgive this period of his life because he looked so ridiculous. However, you get my point.Robin Thicke. His voice is like velvet and he has some serious swagger. His gorgeous wife is also Black.

Kid Cudi and Kanye West. HELLA SWIRL/HIPSTER right here! Could those pants be any tighter?

Any thoughts, ideas, opinions on this subject? Let's create a dialogue. This is a safe space!

Mix-Great Monday! Marb$ is doing this too...

It's back!

1. Song That Speaks to My Soul:

04 - Mejor Me Voy - Ely Guerra
I would listen to this song right before I would go to sleep. It's like resting your head on a pillow made out of feathers. I've professed my love for Ely Guerra before and I'll do it over and over. Her voice is angelic.

2. The Throwback:

bring it all to me - blaque
I still love this song. If I remembered the words, I'd still sing this at the top of my lungs.

3. The Guilty Pleasure:

Boys Boys Boys - Lady Gaga
I sing this really loud in the shower sometimes. My neighbors are probably super pissed at me for it since I shower with the window open sometimes. Whatever, they're a bunch of hipsters and I can hear their lame music through the walls. It's paybacks.

4. Song that's like Roses & Chocolate.

Crybaby - Mariah Carey (Featuring Snoop Dogg)
I'm taking it back with this song. This is off of the Rainbow album before Mariah went bonkers and Luis Miguel broke up with her crazy ass. The funny part is that I stole this album from my little brother. He claimed he wanted the poster that came inside of the cd because she was "so hot". Sure, whatever.

Goal In Life #1

I have dreams, sueños if you will.  I want to go to grad school, I want to travel (all of Latin America and Europe), I want to find a Silver Fox to finance my life.

But also, I have a secret want.  I want to be a contestant on Supermarket Sweep.  Do you remember this show?  Yes, it's weird because of my grocery store phobia.  You'd think this would be my ultimate nightmare, but honestly it's perhaps the only way I could get over my fear.  I mean I kind of already have experience running through a grocery store in ridiculous speed in order to get the eff out.  So these skills could benefit when the super partner challenge is to run around the store, usually filling up the shopping cart with huge turkeys, diapers, and wheels of cheese.  Also, one must get a badass inflatable something for a bonus.  Who doesn't love those!

This show is a classic, I will forever want a sweater with a number in the corner.

$cruz is doing a MixGreat!!!

I've been MIA from the MixGreat world, but now I'm back and super pumped about the new MixGreat feature: Song That Are Like Roses & Chocolate.
Here it goes...

1. Song That Speaks To My Soul
"Melt Your Heart"-Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins

Back in the day "Rabbit Fur Coat" by Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins was on heavy rotation in my car, my ipod, and in my life.  I would sing this song in the car like an effing loca, day or night I was singing.  I've seen Jenny Lewis a few times live and she never disappoints.  I was so stalker-ish that back in the day, I saw her live in Portland on a Friday and drove to Seattle and saw her live again on Saturday.  I was a hardcore fangirl back in the day, what happened?

Melt Your Heart - Jenny W/ The Watson Twins Lewis

2. The Throwback
"Ladies Night"-Kool & The Gang

Yes, Kool & The Gang again.  Their music should be the soundtrack to life.  People would be much happier.  This song was actually one of my favorites in high school.  I could sing it from beginning to end, I still can actually.  So if you want to hire me for a bachelorette party let me know.  We can discuss logistics and style.  Holla.

3. The Guilty Pleasure
"You Can Get It All"-Bow Wow

Yes your eyes are being honest to you, that says Bow Wow.  I almost didn't put this song on the blog because I truly didn't want to admit that I liked this song.  But I said, ah eff it.  The blog is my safe space, therefore I will share my shame.  Lets do this. *I had to do the corny youtube with the frozen photo, it's the only way I could get the entire song on here.*

4. Song That Are Like Roses & Chocolate
"It's Yours"-J.Holiday

J.Holiday is a perfect choice to start the Roses & Chocolate feature.  He's the dude who sings about putting girls to bed.  J.Holiday Pandora Radio is one of my favorites.  This song is just amazing, it's like a grown up lullaby.  Is that wrong?

Its Yours (Explicit) - J. Holiday

When My Escort Fails Me

U-Scoot, I want one, is that wrong?  No I'm not old, my legs are fine, I'm just lazy.  I saw this commercial and really wanted to laugh and cry all at the same time.  You know which part gets me the most?  Check out the following youtube at about the :43 second mark.  If I ever one day get married (barf) I don't want my dad to dance with me with the assistance of a U-scoot.  No Papi!  You can't get a U-Scoot, you have too much cumbia to give to the dance floor!

Mix-Great Monday CHANGES!

After much deliberation, Stefanie and I have decided to create a new category for Mix-Great Monday. The new category will be known as Songs That Are Like Roses & Chocolate.

During a grueling homework session in the computer lab, Stefanie and I decided to take a break and create the definitive Slow Jams collection. That's right. We're talking about Let's-Get-It-On music. Instead of doing homework, we created a long list of slow jams that we deemed amazing. I think we reached 50 songs in about a half an hour.

Songs in this category are a mix of soothing and sensual with a risk of being mad cheesy. Think chocolate covered strawberries and sipping champagne flutes with linked arms. We were going to create a long imeem playlist, but found it too difficult (we're old). The original title was going to be called, "I Think I Just Got a Baby Put In Me - Volume I. " But considering where we are in life and how young we are, joking around about babies isn't funny. We didn't want to create some sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. So if you end up getting preggers after listening to the music on our blog, we apologize ahead of time, but don't say we didn't warn you.
