Style Icon: Lisa Turtle- Saved by the Bell.

I'm surprised I didn't consider Miss Turtle a Style Icon before. Stefanie and I were watching Saved by the Bell today and I fell in love with all of it's cheesy glory. I forgot how awesomely bad the acting and plots were. The one thing that really stood out for me was Lisa's fashion choices. Girlfriend was bold. Jessie and Kelly couldn't hold a candle to Lisa. You go girl, keep it real.

soundlyawake on YouTube

Youtube, what did I do before you existed? The only way I got a degree from college was because of you. Well during the summer/fall, during my post-graduation unemployment depression, I found solace in youtube...I even went as far as subscribing to people's channels in order to pleasure my eyes on new videos on my homepage.

I wanted to share a particular channel: soundlyawake. Oh this channel is delicious and hilarious. Nicola Foti is soundlyawake...become a fan on facebook...I just did. He plays a bunch of characters and does mini-monologues. His videos are always edited beautifully and they are filled with chuckle moments.

On his page he states everything about himself:
"Hi, my name is Nick. I like bouncing and ripping paper."

Check out his youtube channel and subscribe...

One of my favs...

Always In Search Of...

...the perfect mascara! I've tried tons, and have found some good ones for cheap. Lash Blast rules, we know this. I really liked this one too, but it can get clumpalicious.
But my favorite at the moment?

Cover Girl Eyelights in Waterproof Black Pearl. I used this at my mom's house, and it worked sooo well! She let me keep it. It's been buried in my make-up pile and I recently started using it again. I love it. It has specs of metallics but you can't even tell, so it's not like it's glitter mascara or anything. Ah, I love it.

According to Cover Girl, it states:
"Get 4x brighter eyes* with Exact Eyelights Mascara! Light-reflecting metallics and a hint of tint bring out your blues, browns, hazels and greens, while our patented no-clump brush helps define lashes."

Stuff That Rules @ Life

I thought I would clump a few things into one post, and it's basically just stuff I'm into/bought recently/and just love at the moment. I'm lazy and didn't want to do separate posts. Whatevs...

From Joel to Handsome: Part 1 "Old Man Chic"

Remember when I brought up our From Joel to Handsome project? Well, I promised that my brother would soon be our own personal paper doll and this is our first installment of the blog series. For this blog entry, I've decided to tackle "Old Man Chic." I would dub it, "Grandpa Style", but my grandpa did not wear this type of clothing usually. I heard he rocked the straw tejana (cowboy hat for the non-spanish speaking folk) until he D-I-E'd. Therefore, we were going for a more preppy stereotypical Anglo look. Ironically, our two main sources for inspiration are Andre 3000 and Fonzworth Bentley. Below are a couple of pictures used as examples:

Below are some of picks and suggestions to try and ease Joel into this look. Of course I do not expect miracles, but this is a good start for someone like him.

The green jacket on the left is in a fun color. It's not in some crazy flourescent hipster color which I appreciate. It has a preppy old school feel to it without the Goodwill smell. Next to this jacket is a nice basic blazer that could go with jeans or slacks. The button up above is in a nice neutral blue that can go with most anything you can dream up. It's a step-up from his short-sleeved button-ups!

As we have mentioned in previous posts, aviators are a must. Also, this semi-ironic old man hat will be a good touch for any old man chic outfit. IHST does NOT approve of the newsboy cap, so get this fedora shape instead. Not just any fedora-- this one above! Most fedora are for tools, but this shape in grey is structured in a way that works. Basic slacks in a dark shade are also a must-have. Make sure they are tailored to fit well. You don't want to be known as that dude with the apple-bottom that rivals J.Lo's. Trust me, we've seen this and had many hearty laughs at certain people's expense.

I'm a big fan of this blazer/cardigan hybrid on the very left. The material makes it less boxy than a blazer, but not so form-fitting like a normal cardigan. This is PERFECT. I'm also into any sort of plain leather-jacket, especially in brown. Black is cool too, but brown is much more chic. Since Joel is transitioning, he can't be seen in extreme nut-hugging jeans. I like the fit of these-- not too baggy and not too tight. It's enough to make any pair of shoes stand out.

Until the next From Joel to Handsome!

When I say I need many colors in this collection, I mean I need them. The colors in China Glaze's Up Up & Away Collection for Spring 2010 are beautiful!!! There is a great combination of super bright colors and pastels. I love pastels soooo much! With springtime right around the corner these colors would look so fabulous on my nails! Eek!

Delish New Snack!

I'm all about these Odwalla Chewy Nut Bars in Sweet & Salty Almond. It has the perfect balance of sweet and salty to get you going for the day. I've been having them as my post-lunch treat. I've had a bunch of different kinds of Odwalla bars, but this one is by far the best. So if you're ever in need of a quick snack fix...go with this...

Where You Been Marb$?

Sorry for being a horrible mother and abandoning the blog for a little bit. I have had a crazy time adjusting to my new job, commuting, and being sick. Plus, after my birthday, it's all been a weird whirlwind of stuff, but now I'm back! I've bought tons of shiny things I have yet to post, so sit tight. In the meantime, admire my mini-sephora kit that I bought myself with my birthday dinero:

The quality sucks because it was taken from iPhone, but it's still admirable. I used to be the proud owner of the Sephora Blockbuster kit up until someone (who shall remain nameless) dropped it! The blush powder spilled onto the eyeshadows and ruined them along with the lip glosses. I didn't know what heartbreak was until that very day...
Anyway, now I have this cute medium Blockbuster kit that is just as awesome.

I got this bag!

Remember this post? Well my sister loves me so much she got it for me! I was soooooo surprised! It was so sweet of her! I love it so much. The bag is even more gorgeous than I thought. I must take care of this bag like my new phone, I'm being a grown up now.

You Know You're A Single Girl When...

This is a first ever IHST recipe for the Single Girl. La Marb$ and I are not very kitchen savvy, we are working on this as we get older. One day, we had TV time and decided to make a meal and watch the new episode of Jersey Shore. So here is a step by step recipe to our meal...

Ingredients:
Top Ramen (whatever flavor you're into, we chose Oriental)
Sliced Cheese
Sliced Bread
Butter (or butter alternative)

So I was in charge of the Top Ramen situation, Marb$ and I don't like a lot of water/broth in our Top Ramen, just mainly a noodle situation. Boil the water, stick the noodles in, add the seasoning...you now have soup.
The next is the "grilled cheese sandwich" I use quotes because there was no grilling involved. (Marb$ created this quick sandwich feast). First, you toast some bread and then butter it up, then you take your toasted bread, stick some cheese in it, microwave to a bubbling perfection, and there you go. Lazy sandwich with no black burnt sides (that's what I do).

We sat with our quick single girl meals and had a great time with the Jersey Shore.

So there you go...we are in the works to develop a book deal with the Food Network's sister channel: How Lazy People Make Food on a Budget Network...

It's a Legitimate Question

I love google, I love all the choices it makes for me...especially trying to predict what I'm asking.

HATER JUEVES: Laker Fans

I missed Thursday's hate fest so I must do one early on this Friday morning...

I have such hate for Laker fans. Laker fans are so unoriginal and are digging the obvious. So many of them that actually live in LA or California are, for the most part, transplants that jump on the Hollywood-ness of being a Laker fan. And for those outside of LA, that live in...lets say...Oregon, are all about being Laker fans because they think it's hardcore and it's soooo much cooler to be a fan of a team that is housed in a state full of sunshine and an array of streetware. Well we have ridiculously amazing trees and fresh air.

It's even difficult for me to wear yellow and purple at the same time, which is crazy tough because those are 2 of my favorite colors. I'll root for whatever team is playing against the Lakers.

I'm not being a hater of the Lakers just because I'm a super fan of the Blazers...I like watching the Celtics and the Cavaliers and even the Knicks. I'm sorry if I offended anyone with my Laker fan hate, but that's what I'm here to do. Plus Kobe Bryant is ugly and he buys fat rings for his wife when he is accused of rape...
HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE

This post is disapproved by $cruz's dad who had a framed picture of Magic Johnson in his house back in the day...
